Have you ever come up against a task that you feel overwhelmed about accomplishing? Is the very thought of doing that thing almost unthinkable, and you have no idea how to do it, or even how to get started? Here’s a little exercise you can do that can help you not only get started, but generate some creative ideas to help with the entire process.
You’re going to need a little imagination here. First, grab a piece of paper and a pen or pencil. Next, close your eyes and envision in your mind your future self, already having accomplished the goal. Consider how it feels to be at the end of that journey. Feel that excitement of accomplishment. What does that person look like? What thoughts does that person think? What other emotions does that person feel? Now, on the piece of paper write a letter from Future You to Current You. Tell yourself in detail how you got to where you are now. Tell yourself how you accomplished that once overwhelming task.
You will be amazed at the creative solutions and options your mind will come up with. With help from your future self, your task will become do-able and no longer overwhelming. You can bask in that feeling of accomplishment and be empowered from that feeling to move forward.
